Weather and time
This camera overlooks the roadside entrance of Jonangu Shrine in Fushimi Ward, in the southern part of Kyoto. A tall torii rises above pine trees, with a stone lantern at the right edge of the frame.
Jonangu was founded in 794, when the capital moved to Heian-kyo, to watch over the southern side of the new city. It is known as a shrine for protection from unlucky directions, and its Rakusuien garden hosts a re-enacted Heian-era poetry party beside a winding stream in spring and autumn.
The camera looks across a pedestrian crossing and a road lined with orange barriers toward the gate, the lantern and the tall pines. Rooftops of the neighbourhood are visible beyond the trees, so the shot shows the shrine within an ordinary street.
