Weather and time
This elevated view overlooks the wide Higashioji-dori junction at the foot of Gojo-zaka in Higashiyama, Kyoto. Zebra crossings, a diagonal crosswalk and a black-and-white corner building fill the frame, with green hills rising beyond the rooftops in the distance.
Higashioji-dori is the main north-south road along the eastern side of central Kyoto, and Gojo-zaka is the slope that climbs east from it toward Kiyomizu-dera Temple. A bus stop named Gojozaka stands at this junction, and buses, taxis and cars share the lanes with the people crossing.
The camera is fixed in a raised position, so traffic and pedestrians are visible at the same time. This sets it apart from the Kiyomizu-zaka view, which looks at close range along a shop-lined lane. Here the picture changes with the signal cycle, as groups of walkers cross and buses and cars pass through.
