Ohigashi-san Plaza, Higashi Honganji Live Cam

Ohigashi-san Plaza in Kyoto is the paved square with a round fountain that stretches along Karasuma-dori in front of Higashi Honganji. Tall ginkgo trees line its edge, the tiled temple roofs rise on the left, and buses and cars pass on the right.

The square opened in spring 2023 as Kyoto's first citizen green space, joining a strip of city road and the old green belt into one public area. The redesign widened the open space around the fountain and added lawns and new trees. The temple lies a short walk north of Kyoto Station, and on some days the plaza hosts flea markets and craft fairs.

Seen from a nearby rooftop, the frame is tighter than a panorama of the temple halls, so the fountain basin, curved lampposts and the crossing on Karasuma-dori are easy to make out. On market days rows of white and red-and-white tents cover the paving.
