What fountain webcams show
Fountain webcams show fountains on city squares, in parks and in palace gardens, from historic basins with sculptures to modern musical fountains. The fountain is usually at the centre of the frame, with the square or garden around it.
A fountain is a natural meeting place, so the camera shows much more than water: children playing in the spray on hot days, tourists tossing coins, couples on the steps, musicians nearby. Musical and illuminated fountains put on scheduled shows, usually in the evening, when water, light and music are synchronised.
The season decides whether there is any water at all. Many fountains are switched off and drained in winter to protect them from frost, and some freeze into ice sculptures when the cold comes early. Summer evenings are their liveliest hours, with the lights on and crowds all around.
