Weather and time
A wide view across the lawn at Cape Arkona on Rügen, with the Seenotrettung exhibition building and a rescue boat on display. The small red-and-white lighthouse stands in the distance on the left, near the entrance to the Mare Balticum centre.
Mare Balticum is housed in the former Marineführungsbunker, a naval command bunker built in 1979–1986 for the East German Volksmarine and now used for exhibitions. Cars stay in Putgarten, so visitors arrive on foot, by horse carriage or by a small road train. A path past the lighthouse leads to the Gellort cliff, about 1 km northwest, which lies slightly farther north than the cape itself.
This camera looks away from the big lighthouses, so neither the New Lighthouse nor the Schinkelturm is in the picture. Instead it shows the open grass, the long exhibition building, a playground and trees at the right edge.
