Weather and time
A close view of the lighthouse square at Cape Arkona on Rügen, with the lantern of the small red-and-white lighthouse on the left. On the right the tall New Lighthouse rises behind the square brick Schinkelturm.
The Schinkelturm was built in 1826–27 to a design by Karl Friedrich Schinkel and is the second-oldest lighthouse on Germany’s Baltic coast after Travemünde. It was taken out of service in 1905, when the 35 m New Lighthouse next to it, built in 1901–02, took over as the active light. The small lighthouse on the left is a replica that was set up on the square in 2025.
This framing is much tighter than the wide view of the same square on the neighbouring camera. The two towers fill the right half of the picture, while trees and a low brick building fill the lower part of the frame.
