Midway Airport Runway 31, Chicago Live Cam

This camera overlooks the southeast corner of Chicago Midway International Airport, where runways 31L, 31C and 31R begin. Its view pans and zooms along the taxiways toward the hangars and the terminal.

Midway lies on the southwest side of Chicago, in a square bounded by 55th and 63rd Streets and Cicero and Central Avenues. It opened in 1927 and is now the city's second busiest airport, with Southwest Airlines as its largest carrier. Runways numbered 31 point roughly northwest, so aircraft landing on them come in over this corner.

The wide view shows the start of the runway with its 31R sign, a red and white checkered blast fence by the perimeter wall and a water tower on the horizon. Further along come the long arched hangars, and turned toward the terminal it shows the gates. At high zoom it closes in on single aircraft near the runway threshold.
