Evanston Beach, Illinois Live Cam

A beach at Evanston lies east of this webcam, on the shore of Lake Michigan just north of Chicago, Illinois. Kayaks are stacked on the sand, a flagpole and a pier stand at the water's edge, and the lake fills the horizon.

Evanston has five public beaches along its lakefront, backed by parks rather than by buildings, and this one sits beside a green space with courts and a playground. The city is home to Northwestern University and lies about twenty kilometres from downtown Chicago.

The lake behaves like a small sea: it builds surf in autumn gales and freezes along the shore in hard winters. Swimming is supervised only in the short summer season.
