Weather and time
This camera overlooks Port-Mer Beach in Cancale, a wide crescent of sand on the north coast of Brittany. Moored boats dot the bay between two wooded headlands.
Cancale lies on the Emerald Coast at the edge of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel and is known for its oysters. Port-Mer is the town's northern beach, a few kilometres from the fishing harbour of La Houle and not far from the Pointe du Grouin. A sailing centre stands at the head of the beach, and its wooden deck is the vantage point here. Dinghies and catamarans rest on the sand along the left edge of the frame.
The camera does not move: it keeps the same panoramic view of the bay all day. The tide changes the scene completely. At high water the sea reaches the upper beach, while at low water broad flats of sand open up and the moored boats sit far out on the shallow bay.
