Weather and time
A raised view along the seafront promenade of Luc-sur-Mer, with the beach on one side and rows of beach huts on the other. A long pier reaches out into the sea in the distance.
Luc-sur-Mer lies on the Bay of Seine about 15 km north of Caen and is known as the doyenne of the Côte de Nacre resorts, where sea bathing became fashionable from the 1840s. The Jetée des Pêcheurs in the distance was installed in 1971 after being moved from Ouistreham. The skeleton of a fin whale stranded in 1885 is kept in a park in town.
The camera keeps one fixed angle and is aimed east along the promenade: a red-brown walkway with a metal railing on the left, tall street lamps, and white beach huts with dark roofs on the right. At low tide the beach below the railing is a broad band of sand and seaweed, and the pier closes the perspective.
