Saint-Valery-en-Caux is a small port town on the Alabaster Coast of Normandy, in the Seine-Maritime department, where the harbour lies in a valley between two chalk cliffs. The basin is filled mostly with sailing yachts and motor boats, and the quays around it are lined with tall stone and brick houses.

The camera rotates, so the picture is not always the same. In some frames it looks down the length of the basin to the quay houses and the hill, in others it turns to the pontoons and a metal gangway with a numbered mooring post at the near side. Masts crowd the frame in every position.
