Ault Seafront Live Cam

This camera overlooks the seafront of Ault, a small town on the Channel coast of the Somme where the chalk cliffs of Picardy begin. In view are a rounded terrace on the sea wall, the concrete promenade, a shingle beach crossed by a rock groyne and the open sea.

Ault stands on top of the cliffs where the high chalk coast gives way to the low shingle shore running north towards Onival. The white chalk faces here rise to about 38 metres and retreat by roughly 30 centimetres a year. Storms and cliff falls destroyed the old lower town and its harbour centuries ago.

The camera turns between the terrace and promenade looking north-east along the coast, the shingle below the sea wall, the white cliffs to the south-west and the open Channel. At low tide in the morning it also shows a wide strip of uncovered foreshore.
