Botany Pond, Hyde Park Live Cam

Botany Pond is a landscaped campus pond in Hyde Park, Chicago, seen from above with a stone footbridge at the far end. The wide-angle view takes in most of the water, with a paved path, wooden benches and flowering borders along the right bank.

The pond lies in Hull Court beside the Erman Biology Center and was built in 1903 as an outdoor research pond for botany students. A recent restoration reinforced the century-old bridge, added biological filtration and brought back native plants and fish.

The stone-edged shoreline curves around the water, and tree reflections fill much of the surface. A large conifer leans over the pond near the bridge, a lamp post stands by the path, and flat stones and aquatic plants break up the surface.
