Weather and time
This camera on the observation tower of the treetop walk in Hainich National Park looks out over the forest canopy near Bad Langensalza. As it turns, the view moves from the woods right below the tower to the open country beyond the forest edge.
Hainich, in western Thuringia, is one of the largest deciduous forests in Germany, and since 1997 a national park has left much of it to grow wild. Its old beech stands became part of a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2011. The walk opened in 2005 and runs for about 540 metres through the crowns, with a 44-metre tower at its centre.
Some views look down on the walkway railings and a white fabric roof over one of its platforms, while others reach across fields, villages and wind turbines on the plain of the Thuringian Basin. A mast on the tower platform crosses part of the picture in a few of them.
