Weather and time
This camera looks from the Franklin Pierce University campus in Rindge, New Hampshire, toward the bare rocky summit of Mount Monadnock. Low campus rooftops line the bottom of the frame, below a wide band of forest.
Mount Monadnock rises to 3,165 feet in Jaffrey and is the most prominent peak in southern New Hampshire. Its top has been largely bare since settlers set fires in the early 1800s that stripped the trees and soil. Often called one of the most climbed mountains in the world, it also gave its name to the geological term for a lone peak standing above a worn-down plain.
The campus lies about six miles south-southeast of the summit, so the whole mountain spans the middle of the view, with the rocky crown near the center and wooded shoulders on both sides. A light pole stands at the left edge and pine boughs frame the right.
