Peregrine Falcon Nest Box, Du Bois Library, Amherst Live Cam

This webcam watches a peregrine falcon nest box on the roof parapet of the Du Bois Library in Amherst, Massachusetts. The weathered gray box stands on a red brick wall high above the campus, with wooded hills on the horizon.

The Du Bois Library is the 28-story main library of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, often cited as the tallest university library in the world. A nest box was first placed on its roof in 1998, and peregrines have raised chicks here since 2003; the pair that held the site from 2003 to 2014 hatched 37 of them. The young birds are banded by the state wildlife agency, MassWildlife.

The camera is fixed at the height of the box, so a falcon resting in the square opening or on the gravel ledge is seen side-on against open sky. Metal rigging stands on the left, and pale concrete roof walls curve away behind the box.
