Weather and time
This camera looks into the peregrine falcon nest box on the second gallery of the Onze Lieve Vrouwetoren in Amersfoort, Netherlands. The floor of the box is covered with pale gravel, and an arched opening on the right shows red roofs far below.
The Late Gothic tower, known locally as Lange Jan, was built between about 1444 and 1470 and rises some 98 metres over the old town. Its church was destroyed by a gunpowder explosion in the 18th century, leaving the tower standing alone. The nest box was fitted in 2013, and peregrines have raised chicks here every year since 2014.
The fixed view takes in the whole gravel floor from above, with the opening in the upper right corner. In spring the eggs lie in a scrape in the gravel and the chicks stay until they fledge; after dark the image turns black and white.
