Weather and time

Tracks east of Amsterdam Centraal run past the Dijksgracht works, where a new rail tunnel is being cut into a grassy embankment. In the default view its concrete and weathering-steel mouth opens beside site containers and a white tent.

The site lies on the former Dijksgracht rail yard, between the canal of the same name and Piet Heinkade along the IJ waterfront. A grade-separated crossing is being built here: two tracks will run through a tunnel about 100 metres long while four others pass over it. Trains to and from the station will then no longer have to wait for each other where their routes cross.

Across the tracks stand large brick buildings on Piet Heinkade, with a glimpse of the IJ between them. The camera does not stay on one view: it sometimes turns to follow the tracks and the road, then returns to the wide shot of the tunnel mouth.
