Peregrine Falcon Nest Box, Bonn Live Cam

This fixed camera watches a peregrine falcon nest box on the roof edge of the waste incineration plant in the Weststadt district of Bonn. A wide landing platform with a wooden perch juts out in front of it, above car parks, rooftops and an elevated road.

The plant burns household waste from Bonn and the Rhein-Sieg district, and its steam goes to a neighbouring municipal plant that makes electricity and district heat. Peregrine falcons and kestrels both nest on the building, in boxes on the chimney and along the roof edge. In 2021 workshop staff at the plant enlarged this box to suit the falcons better.

Rather than looking into the nest, the camera keeps the entrance, the platform and a broad slice of the city in one frame, so landings and departures are easy to follow. On clear days the view reaches low hills on the horizon.
