The frame covers a stretch of apron in front of the main pier. Wide-body aircraft on the long-haul stands are usually the first thing to catch the eye, but most of the movement is smaller and constant — baggage trains, catering lifts, fuel bowsers and pushback tugs crossing the concrete between departures.

Düsseldorf is Germany's third-busiest airport by passenger numbers and the main hub for the Rhine-Ruhr region, so the apron rarely empties. Stand markings are painted on the concrete in the lower half of the picture.
