Inside the departures hall at Düsseldorf Airport, this camera looks down from the gallery onto the check-in concourse. The security queue forms in the lower half of the frame.

The steel columns branching across the picture carry the terminal's glass roof, one of the building's signatures since the reconstruction that followed the 1996 fire. Beneath them run the check-in islands, the information displays and the queue that forms and dissolves through the day. Trolleys, tour groups and airline staff move constantly across the polished floor.

Traffic in the hall follows the departure banks rather than the clock: it thins to almost nothing in the small hours and builds sharply before the early-morning and late-afternoon waves.
