Osprey Nest, St. Petersburg, Florida Live Cam

This camera looks down into an osprey nest on a tall pole platform in Saint Petersburg, Florida, above a busy suburban street. The bowl of sticks and dry grass fills the foreground, with pines, a palm and passing cars beyond the rim.

The nest stands in the Edgemoor neighborhood near the corner of 62nd Avenue North and 4th Street North. The ospreys first built on a low roadside sign, and with help from the Clearwater Audubon Society the nest was moved onto a 50-foot pole. Tampa Bay lies a short distance to the east, so these fish-eating hawks never have far to fly for a catch.

The fixed camera sits just above the platform, keeping the whole nest and a weathered wooden perch post in view. Past the rim it looks over treetops to a multi-lane road with a painted crosswalk and single-story houses, an unusual suburban backdrop for a raptor nest.
