Weather and time

A large weathered stone with a deep hollow full of seed serves as a ground feeder for wild animals in a garden in Ruda Śląska. A dense thicket of shrubs and young trees rises behind it, and a many-stemmed bush fills the right edge of the picture.

The stream's own list of visitors counts 27 bird species at this feeder, among them jays, magpies, hooded crows, great spotted woodpeckers, wrens and bullfinches. Mammals come too: short clips recorded here show foxes, a marten, a roe buck and a herd of wild boar. Ruda Śląska itself is an industrial city of about 135,000 people between Katowice and Zabrze.

The camera is set at ground level right beside the stone, so magpies and jays dropping into the hollow appear large in the frame. Unlike a raised bird table, this feeder is low enough for foxes and wild boar to reach.
