Live Bird Feeder Webcams

What bird feeder webcams show

Bird feeder webcams point at feeding stations in gardens, nature centres and on balconies: seed feeders, suet cakes, bird tables and nectar feeders. Because birds come close to the food, these cameras give some of the most detailed views of small birds anywhere.

A feeder is a busy stage. Different species have different manners: some grab a seed and fly off, others stay and squabble, and larger birds chase smaller ones away. Squirrels are regular uninvited guests, and the arrival of a hawk can empty the feeder in a second. Cameras with sound add songs and calls that help with identification.

Feeders are busiest early in the morning and before dusk, and in winter, when natural food is scarce and snow covers the ground. In spring the visitors change: migrants pass through, pairs appear, and later in the season parents bring their fledglings to the feeder. Many nature centres keep a list of the species seen, which makes these cameras a good way to learn to tell birds apart.
