Weather and time

The camera looks over a small rock-edged pond and hanging hummingbird feeders in a garden in Angleton, on the Gulf Coast plain of Texas. A fan palm fills the right side of the frame, and a gravel path curves past a birdbath.

Angleton is the county seat of Brazoria County, about 69 kilometres south of Houston and some 30 kilometres from the Gulf of Mexico. The upper Texas coast is a major route for ruby-throated hummingbirds, which pass through from August to October on their way south. Some of them stay for several days to put on fat before crossing the Gulf.

The fixed camera sits close to the feeders, so the orange bottle feeder and a tall glass feeder on the left are seen at short range. A small Texas-shaped ornament stands at the water's edge, and a chain-link fence runs along a road on the left. After dark the picture turns black and white.
