Weather and time
A fixed camera on the southwestern edge of Bayou Vista, Texas, looks across open water to a low railroad trestle near Galveston. A strip of salt marsh lines the rock-armoured embankment, and a wooden boardwalk frames the foreground.
Bayou Vista is a small canal town in Galveston County with about 1,760 residents. Its streets run along narrow strips of land between straight canals, so many homes have their own boat dock. The town lies on the mainland beside State Highway 6 and was badly damaged by Hurricane Ike in 2008.
The tracks belong to the BNSF line that continues across West Bay to Galveston Island. The view stays fixed: marsh on the left, the trestle with its row of pale pilings right of centre and two palm trees at the far end, with flat marshland running to the horizon.
