Weather and time
Tracks of the Union Pacific West Belt Subdivision stretch southeast from this spot in Houston to a street crossing just ahead. A brick building, a service station and a signal mast stand beyond the crossing.
The Houston West Belt Subdivision is a Union Pacific freight route on the east side of downtown Houston, and BNSF and Canadian Pacific Kansas City trains also use Union Pacific lines in the city. Sampson Street crosses the rails at grade in this part of the Second Ward, a district of warehouses and lofts that grew up beside the rail corridors.
The camera faces the opposite way from the north view at the same site. Three tracks run through the foreground, with a stop sign and a small equipment shed at the left, a tall vine-covered pole at the right, and the rails curving left past the shed beyond the crossing.
