Weather and time
This view looks across the tracks at the north end of Crewe station, where the West Coast Main Line and the Manchester line run side by side. Overhead line gantries, signal posts and a brick lineside building fill the scene beyond the rails.
Crewe is one of the best-known railway junctions in Britain: its station opened in 1837, and the town grew around the railway works built here soon after. Today the West Coast Main Line meets routes to Manchester, Chester, Shrewsbury and Stoke-on-Trent at Crewe.
Rather than looking along a platform, this camera stands back from the station and looks over a wide spread of running lines, with curved tracks bending away into the distance on the left. On-screen captions mark WCML North on the left, Wilmslow and Manchester straight ahead and WCML South on the right.
