Houston Sampson Street Skyline View, Texas Live Cam

Union Pacific tracks run northwest from Sampson Street in Houston toward the downtown skyline on the horizon. A turnout in the foreground joins a third track to the line, and a gray warehouse stands beside the right of way.

These are the Union Pacific Houston West Belt Subdivision tracks, a north to south freight route on the east side of downtown, in the Second Ward area. A short distance from this spot the Galveston Subdivision joins the line and leads toward Galveston. Most of that route follows the old Galveston, Houston and Henderson Railroad, chartered in 1853, whose trains reached Houston around 1859.

This camera looks northwest along the rails. Trees and low rooftops line the right of way, the towers of downtown Houston rise above them at the upper right, and the tracks bend gently right near the horizon.
