Weather and time
Akabane Station carries five lines across eight tracks on elevated platforms in Kita City, in the north of Tokyo, Japan. The camera looks along the rails from above, with the gantries and the apartment blocks behind.
The Tōhoku Main Line, the Takasaki, Keihin-Tōhoku, Shōnan-Shinjuku and Saikyō lines all pass through, which makes this one of the busiest interchanges in the northern half of the city. At peak times a train enters the frame every minute or two.
Everything was lifted onto viaduct in the 1990s to clear the level crossings that had cut the district in two. Beneath and beside the station is a dense grid of drinking alleys that survived the rebuilding largely intact.
