What bridge webcams show
Bridge webcams show road, rail and pedestrian bridges and the water or valley beneath them. A bridge is often the most photogenic structure in a city, so many cameras frame it as a landmark, while others watch the traffic crossing it.
Bridges are where several kinds of movement meet: cars and buses on the deck, trains on a rail bridge, boats passing underneath. Opening bridges put on a show of their own when they lift or swing aside to let a ship through. Traffic on the approaches is a good indicator of how a city's roads are coping, especially at rush hour.
Evening is when bridges look most striking, with the lights switched on and reflected in the water. Fog can hide the towers of a large bridge while the deck stays clear, and strong wind sometimes brings restrictions for high vehicles. In winter, ice on the river below changes the whole picture.
