Weather and time
This camera watches a bird feeding station set up behind the learning barn at Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Tube feeders hang from tall metal poles in front of thick shrubs and a tree trunk, with a roofed hopper and trays lower down.
The reserve covers about 50 acres on the edge of Latrobe, in the Laurel Highlands between the Route 30 corridor and Route 981. It is named after Winnie Palmer, the wife of Latrobe-born golfer Arnold Palmer. Its trails, open from dawn to dusk, pass a pond, wetlands and native wildflower gardens.
The shot sits close to the feeders, so seed tubes, the suet cages on the hopper and the cone-shaped baffle on the left pole fill most of the frame. Northern cardinals perch on the hopper ledge, and gray squirrels climb onto the low tray beneath it.
