Weather and time
This camera overlooks a gravel path beside a narrow stream and a stone-based plaster wall in Ohara, a mountain district of north-east Kyoto. Maple branches arch over the path near Jakkoin Temple.
Jakkoin is a small Tendai temple, best known as the place where Kenreimon-in, the Taira empress, lived as a nun after her clan fell in the twelfth century, as told in The Tale of the Heike. The main hall burned in 2000 and was rebuilt in 2005. Ohara is also home to Sanzen-in and other temples set among the hills.
The camera is fixed and looks along the path from above. A blue illustrated signboard stands by the stream at the left, a wooden structure shows through the trees at the far end, and the mossy stone base of the wall runs along the right. Single walkers and small groups pass through, and the path is often empty.
