Sakurajima from Kamoike, Kagoshima City Live Cam

This camera faces Sakurajima from the Kamoike district of Kagoshima City, with the volcano rising behind a line of city rooftops. Hotel and apartment towers fill the foreground, and a narrow strip of Kagoshima Bay shows between the buildings and the base of the mountain.

Kamoike lies south of the city centre on the western shore of Kagoshima Bay, and its port handles the ferry to Tarumizu on the opposite side. Sakurajima stands only a few kilometres offshore, so ash from its eruptions sometimes falls on the city. From this side the summit appears as a broad, rugged crown above forested lower slopes.

Unlike the views from the Osumi Peninsula, this angle shows Sakurajima the way most Kagoshima residents see it: as a backdrop to everyday urban life. It is a good view for comparing the scale of the mountain with the city skyline below it.
