Weather and time
A three-panel view from Iwa Island in Kamiamakusa shows a small fishing port with moored boats, a reed-covered slope and a village road. The harbour panel looks along a concrete quay toward a breakwater, with houses on the right.
Iwa Island lies in the northern Amakusa archipelago in Kumamoto Prefecture and is reached over bridges from Oyano Island. Its other name is Senzoku-Zozo Island, and the name Iwa is said to express the wish to keep harmony between its two districts.
All three panels are fixed. The upper left looks over dry reeds toward houses and a wooded hill, the upper right shows a roadside guardrail and a drainage ditch, and the lower centre shows the quay. Parts of the picture are pixelated, so the port is the clearest view, with small open boats at their moorings on calm water.
