Kuma River, Hitoyoshi Live Cam

The Kuma River runs wide and shallow through Hitoyoshi in Kumamoto Prefecture, with a long road bridge crossing its gravel bars. Town roofs, a white mid-rise building and forested hills rise behind the bridge.

Hitoyoshi lies about 65 kilometres south of Kumamoto city, in the western part of the Hitoyoshi Basin, with mountains to the north and south. The Kuma River, counted among the three fastest-flowing rivers in Japan, crosses the city from east to west on its way to the Yatsushiro Sea.

The camera looks down on the river from a height, taking in the bridge, a second bridge farther back, a green sandbar and the town beyond. The framing is not fixed: at some hours the sky and the mountain ridge fill the upper part of the picture, at others the river bed fills most of it.
