Watch the live webcam of Kenrokuen Garden in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. Kanazawa keeps much of its Edo-period character in districts like Nagamachi and Higashi Chaya, where samurai residences and traditional teahouses can still be visited. Kenrokuen is one of the country's best-known gardens, and its scenery changes through the seasons.
It is counted among the Three Great Gardens of Japan, alongside Kairakuen and Korakuen. The Maeda family first laid out the garden in the 17th century, and it brings together the six elements of an ideal garden as defined in Chinese theory. The grounds include broad lawns, ponds, bridges, teahouses, and stone lanterns. Each season shows a different side of the garden, from cherry blossoms in spring and green in summer to autumn foliage and snow in winter.
