National Route 8, Kanazawa Live Cam

A rooftop camera in the Matsushima district of western Kanazawa looks along National Route 8, a wide divided highway with a raised ramp. Low-rise houses, offices, car parks and patches of farmland spread out on both sides of the road toward the flat horizon.

Kanazawa is the capital of Ishikawa Prefecture, the largest city of the Hokuriku region. National Route 8 follows the Sea of Japan coast between Niigata and Kyoto, and its Kanazawa bypass carries through traffic around the city rather than through the historic centre. The camera is mounted on the roof of a local broadcaster's head office.

Other Kanazawa cameras show Kenrokuen Garden, the port or the prefectural office, while this one watches the everyday suburbs and the flow of cars and lorries. On clear days a thin strip of the Sea of Japan appears on the right edge of the horizon.
