Weather and time

This camera looks across the Amaharashi Coast in Takaoka to Onna-iwa, a small pine-topped islet standing in the waters of Toyama Bay. Beyond the rocks the jagged Tateyama Range rises on the far side of the bay, while a railway line curves along the seawall in the foreground.

Amaharashi lies on the western shore of Toyama Bay, between the port of Fushiki and the city of Himi. Its name refers to a legend that the warrior Minamoto no Yoshitsune waited for the rain to clear beneath a rock here, now called Yoshitsune-iwa. The Himi Line railway runs right along the water's edge.

The camera was placed so that Onna-iwa sits in front of the Tateyama Range and Mount Tsurugi. Low reefs dot the water to the left, while the tracks and the seawall lead the eye from the right towards the islet.
