21st Century Museum, Kanazawa Live Cam

The circular glass building of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art fills the foreground of this view over central Kanazawa. Behind it rise the towers of the city centre, and the wooded grounds of Kanazawa Castle Park cover the right side of the frame.

Kanazawa, the capital of Ishikawa Prefecture, grew as the castle town of the Maeda clan. The museum opened in 2004 between the castle and the commercial centre. Its round plan by the architects of SANAA has no main façade, and several entrances open onto the lawn around it. The Kenrokuen garden lies a short walk to the east.

The camera looks north from a high point south of the museum, so the white gallery blocks rising through its flat roof are seen from above. On the right, the grassy Imori-bori moat runs along the foot of the castle's stone walls.
