Ikegami Honmon-ji Temple Live Cam

The main hall of Ikegami Honmon-ji, a Nichiren Buddhist temple in Ōta ward of Tokyo, stands before this webcam. A wide stone court runs up to the steps, with an incense burner in the middle and a painted gate to the right.

The temple stands where Nichiren, the thirteenth-century priest whose teaching the school follows, is held to have died in 1282. The grounds cover a wooded hill reached by a long flight of steps, and a five-storey pagoda from the early 1600s survives elsewhere on the site.

On ordinary days the court is almost empty and only a few visitors cross it. In the middle of October the Oeshiki festival brings lantern processions here over three nights, and the same court fills with thousands of people.
