Weather and time
A hillside camera in Cumberland, Maryland, overlooks the CSX tracks, a substation and a river with a highway bridge beyond. Freight trains pass the near tracks below wooded hills.
This is the CSX Cumberland Terminal Subdivision, a former Baltimore and Ohio route used by freight and Amtrak's Capitol Limited between Washington and Chicago. Cumberland has been a railroad town since the B&O arrived in 1842. The camera sits on Thomas Street in the Cumberland Heights neighborhood.
The camera looks down from a height: a red building wall fills the right edge, parallel tracks fan out toward the substation's steel towers, and a stretch of river and an overpass lie in the distance. The angle and zoom shift slightly between frames, from a wide view of all the tracks to a closer one along a passing train.
