Weather and time
This camera looks north from the top of a bald eagle nest tree on the National Conservation Training Center campus near Shepherdstown. Below it lies an open meadow with mown paths and a small evergreen, backed by a grove of white-trunked sycamores and wooded hills.
The campus covers rolling ground in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, and the Potomac River runs about a quarter mile to the north, hidden beyond the trees. Here the river forms the border with Maryland. Bald eagles have nested in this sycamore since 2003, and the pair sometimes roosts in the grove in the middle of the frame.
Unlike the two nest cameras in the same tree, this wide-angle view shows the setting rather than the nest. Leaves of the nest tree hang at both edges, and the corner of a building appears on the right.
