Weather and time
This camera looks across a bald eagle nest in a tall sycamore on the National Conservation Training Center campus near Shepherdstown. The broad mound of sticks and dry grass rests between two trunks, with a grassy slope and woods falling away to the right.
The campus lies in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, a quarter mile from the Potomac River. Bald eagles began a nest at the top of this tree in 2003, and it has been streamed since 2006. On April 19, 2025, a windstorm brought that upper nest down after 22 years, and its three eaglets died. The adults rebuilt about 15 feet lower in the same sycamore, 75 feet above the ground.
Mounted level with the rim and facing northwest, this camera shows the depth of the nest and birds landing on its edge. Two other cameras in the tree show the nest from above and the view north from the treetop.
