Gelderse Poort Live Cam

Millingen aan de Rijn stands on the Waal a few kilometres from the German border, in the east of the Netherlands. The webcam looks along the dyke path and the water from the village front.

This is where the Rhine enters the country and divides. The bulk of it turns west as the Waal, which carries more freight than any other river in Europe; the rest goes north as the Nederrijn and the IJssel.

The flood plain downstream was given back to the river in the 1990s: the clay diggings were left to flood and konik horses and Galloway cattle were put out to graze it. It was among the first rewilding projects in the country and the model for others.
