Weather and time
Central Fukui rises beyond the Asuwa River in this view from the south bank, with a road bridge crossing the water in the foreground. A cluster of high-rise towers marks the city centre, and a range of hills lines the horizon behind it.
Fukui is the capital of Fukui Prefecture and lies on a plain crossed by the Asuwa and Kuzuryu rivers. The Asuwa embankment is lined with cherry trees for more than two kilometres. The city was rebuilt after wartime bombing in 1945 and a severe earthquake in 1948, which is why it calls itself the Phoenix City. Since March 2024 the Hokuriku Shinkansen has served Fukui Station.
The camera sits on an office building on the south bank and looks north across the river. On the left, the water bends past grassy banks and an embankment path, while reeds and grass cover the wide flood plain on the right.
