Moosehead Lake opens out below this view at Rockwood, on the western shore of the lake in the U.S. state of Maine. Picnic tables stand under a shelter in the foreground, and the flat top of Mount Kineo rises across the water.

Kineo is a cliff of flint rising 200 metres straight out of the lake, quarried by native people for thousands of years for tool stone. Moosehead is forty miles long and surrounded by working timberland, with float planes and boats doing much of the moving about.

The other camera on this lake sits at Greenville, at the southern end near the steamer wharf. Here the lake freezes solid in winter and the tables in view stand on snow.
