Weather and time
A wide lakeside view toward Mt Katahdin in northern Maine, set up to watch the night sky over Millinocket Lake. By day it shows the water, a small pine on a rocky point and the mountain low on the horizon.
The camera stands on the shore of Millinocket Lake in a dark sky region of northern Maine and is pointed north, with Katahdin on the horizon to the left of center. Katahdin is the highest mountain in the state at 5,269 feet (1,606 m) and lies in Baxter State Park. The stream is meant for stars, meteors and aurora after dark.
Compared with the close shot of the mountain from the same shore, this frame is much wider and mostly sky, with a tall pine at the left edge and a second pine and two chairs at the right. Text at the lower left shows geomagnetic readings such as Kp and Bz, and a line at the bottom gives the temperature and wind.
