Weather and time
A low-angle camera looks across a small waterhole in the bushveld of Balule Nature Reserve, Limpopo, from almost ground level. Red soil, a flat ledge with boulders on the far shore and scattered trees fill the frame.
Balule Nature Reserve lies about 25 km from Hoedspruit and shares an unfenced border with Kruger National Park, so it is counted as part of the Greater Kruger area. The camera belongs to Naledi Game Lodge, which stands near the Olifants West Gate on the R40. The reserve is known for the Big Five, and waterholes like this one draw animals to drink.
The camera sits low, so grass and bare red soil lead the eye to the water. It is a different spot from Naledi Dam, another waterhole at the same lodge, where a stone drinking structure stands by the water. The framing stays the same through the day; only light, sky and reflections change.
