Weather and time
A Verreaux's eagle nest of sticks sits on a granite ledge in the Selati Game Reserve, Limpopo, South Africa. The wide-angle camera looks past the nest across a bushveld valley scattered with boulder-covered hills.
The Verreaux's eagle, also called the black eagle, is a large raptor of rocky hills and cliffs in southern and eastern Africa that hunts mostly rock hyraxes. The Selati Game Reserve protects a large tract of bushveld in the Ba-Phalaborwa area, and its resident eagle pair is followed by the Selati Wilderness Foundation.
A bulky pile of dry branches fills the lower half of the frame, a smooth rock wall closes the left side, and the horizon curves slightly at the edge of the wide lens. A date and time stamp runs across the upper corner, and at night the image turns black and white.
